Teach Your Students Communism Works With This Super-Fun Activity!

You will need: wrapped sweets, an open space, a taped-off area in the corner for the gulag.
And Soviet workers songs playing in the background.
Seat class in circle to demonstrate equality. Teacher can be in a chair; after all, we haven’t reached the Utopia yet.
Give students the tip that the game they’re about to play will emulate different forms of economics. Some good some bad!
Distribute sweets, 3–4 each.
Randomly give 4–5 extra to some of them.
In pairs, they must stand, spread out, and play scissors, paper, rock.
Each time one of them loses, that person must give the winner one of their sweets. If a student runs out of sweets, they are out and must sit down.
Time it for 66.6 seconds because Karl Marx loved the Devil.
When the game is over, explain that the game they’ve just played is a simulation of Capitalism. BOO!
Refer to those sitting as the ‘proletariat’ and those standing the ‘bourgeoisie’.
Ask the winners how they feel. Encourage gloating — it makes them look bad and is a true representation of the filthy bourgeois character.
